Arts and Culture Center
Chiang Mai was the administrative, economic and cultural capital of the fomer Kingdom of Lanna. The Chiang Mai City Arts & Culture Centre was created to help people to understand the history, way of life, customs, art and culture of Chiang Mai. The centre also contributes to conservation by preserving the heritage of the old city centre.The Chiang Mai City Arts & Culture Centre is divided into 2 parts. One part contains permanent exhibitions while the other serves as a place to display temporary exhibits, cultural activities and also contains a souvenir shop, lecture theatre and an Exhibition Hall for Lanna arts. The permanent section of the Centre is divided into 15 rooms over two floors which highlight the developement of Chiang Mai from pre-history to its rise and fall as a capital city. There are models, slide shows and video presentations to help visitors understand the origins of the city.
